One Million Pillowcase Challenge Follow-Up

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Dear Friends,

American Patchwork & Quilting magazine is challenging everyone to join their efforts to “Make a Pillowcase, Make a Difference”. Country Stitches joined the challenge and along with your help we are able to donate 439 pillowcases to Loaves and Fishes in Lansing. These pillowcases are staying locally but are being counted in the national number to help reach one million. Over 27,000 have been donated so far. Country Stitches held an event for people to come in and make pillowcases at the store and those who participated had a great time. Also, I would like to thank 4th Grade Girl Scout Troop 777 from Haslett who made 16 pillowcases and to the group “Stitchin’ Bitches” who donated 150 pillowcases.

Loaves and Fishes are very grateful for all of the pillowcases. They like to give every person they help something that is just for them. They also make up care packages for people as they move into transitional housing and pillowcases will go into those as well.

There is so much need in our community at the moment with unemployment being so high. I think we all feel great when we do something to help out.

Reminder: We will be hosting “Placemats for Meals on Wheels” at our East Lansing and Jackson store on Friday, March 19th from 10 am to 4 pm. Meals on Wheels will distribute these placemats for Easter. Plan on joining us for this. Finished placemats are also appreciated.  On this day we will also be hosting Quilt-A-Thon.
