This year’s mystery is Two Step Tango, and our kits will be available for sale on our website starting Friday, January 30 at 12:00 AM EST

The Brown Bag Mystery is an annual quilting adventure you won’t want to miss! Participants purchase a “brown bag” kit filled with mystery fabrics and cutting instructions, carefully designed by Karen Montgomery. Every two weeks, starting March 14th, you’ll receive new pattern clues by mail, along with step-by-step video tutorials in a private Facebook group, gradually revealing your quilt’s final design.

It’s a collaborative, secret-filled journey where the joy is in the surprise—and the creativity! Local shops sell these themed kits, giving quilters a chance to craft a one-of-a-kind quilt without ever seeing the final pattern in advance. Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or looking for a playful challenge, the Brown Bag Mystery is your ticket to fun, community, and a stunning finished quilt.

The approx. finished size is 60” x 60” (no border). Optional border can be purchased separately. This will make up to a 6” border, finished size approx. 72” x 72”.

• It’s a true Mystery. The feature fabric is the only fabric you can see. 
• Choose from the 30 fabrics that will be pictured here on January 30th. 
  • The other fabrics in the kit will coordinate with the feature fabric.  When you purchase your kit or kits you will get all the fabric to make the quilt top and some of the cutting instructions.
•  Starting March 21st you will get a "Clue" (the first set of instructions).  Then every 2 weeks you get another "Clue". 

The pattern is easy enough for a “Confident Beginner."

Join the Private Facebook group after you purchase a kit. Karen will post virtual classes in the private Facebook group for each "Clue." She will post them first thing in the morning on the dates that the clues are revealed. The Facebook group is a great place to meet new friends, see other Brown Bag kits and share ideas with other quilters.
